Dr. Kieran Richards joined the group In January 2023. Originally from South Wales, he completed his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham, followed by a PhD in Materials Science at the University of Cambridge. His doctoral studies focused on soft-matter systems and photo-responsive materials.
Kieran's current work centres on the development of novel molecular systems for photochemical upconversion. His research involves materials design, fabrication, and advanced characterisation techniques to explore innovative approaches for transforming light. In particular, he is interested in taking materials with unique properties, such as the ability to transform light from low to high energy and exploring their behaviour in morphologically interesting environments such as confined spaces or device structures.
Outside of the lab, Kieran enjoys travelling and spending time outdoors with activities such as hiking and canoeing or kayaking.
